Diego Armando Maradona, the best Argentine and one of the best football players of all time, has passed away, the largest Argentine media “Clarin” reported.
Maradona underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma on his brain two weeks ago, after he was hospitalized due to anemia and dehydration. The doctors performed the intervention and announced that a recovery period would follow.
Maradona nearly lost his life in 2000 after a heart attack caused by cocaine, and then spent years of rehabilitation during which he often stayed in Cuba. Five years later, he had a stomach bypass implanted to lose weight, and in 2007, he was hospitalized for alcohol-related hepatitis.
During the World Cup in Russia in 2018, the cameras recorded how he lost consciousness in the ceremonial box during the match between Argentina and Nigeria.
Unfortunately, the situation obviously worsened abruptly because, according to local media, Maradona seems to have suffered a heart attack, and the quick intervention of the doctor was not successful.
According to “Clarin”, the famous football player fell on Wednesday morning local time in his house in San Andres, where he was recovering from the mentioned operation.
He is considered one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century, and in his rich career he played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla and the Newell’s Old Boys. For the national team of Argentina, with which he was the world champion, he played 91 matches and scored 34 goals.
